Not a month goes by without a TV manufacturer releasing a new monster TV, with sizes comfortably above 60 and 70 inches. Nearly all of them feature the same resolution – 1920×1080 pixels – however, so the smaller sets are technically sharper. The latest model from the aptly named Sharp looks to change this, with a staggeringly crisp 7,680×4,320-pixel resolution.
To cram all these pixels in, the latest prototype from Sharp isn’t small. In fact, at 85 inches it’ll be far too big for the average house. It’s the clarity of this display that really astounds though, with the pin-sharp resolution equating to 103 pixels per inch – comfortably more than 36 pixels per inch found on a 60-inch TV with a 1920×1080-pixel resolution.
Unfortunately – at least in Europe – we’re still getting to grips with regular high-definition TV channels, so there’s no way you’d be able to take full advantage of the Sharp’s staggering screen.
Japan does have an infrastructure in place, however, called Super Hi-Vision, and the BBC has dabbled previously with the technology. It still looks like a long way off though, so you’ll have to make do with regular HD in the meantime.
